Choosing the Perfect Glaze (not the icing, but the glaze on pottery): Behind Our Lemon Design

So, you've decided to dive into the world of texture rollers for your pottery and now you're faced with the crucial decision of choosing the perfect glaze for your masterpiece. But wait, we're not talking about the icing on a cake here, we're talking about the glaze that will give your pottery that extra pop! Specifically, let's take a closer look at the lemon design textured roller - a zesty choice for those looking to add a splash of personality to their creations - but also, how do we glaze it so the design doesn't get washed out?  ((I do mention certain suppliers in this post, but I do not get any compensation from my endorsements.))

What Makes the Lemon Design Stand Out?

The lemon design is created by using a texture roller from a company called Cole Mountain Pottery. This roller is not your average run-of-the-mill choice - it's bold, it's refreshing, and it's sure to make a statement. Whether you're crafting a small vase or a decorative bowl, this textured roller will take your creation to the next level.  Cole Mountain Pottery is a creative husband and wife team who strive for excellence in their products, and are always delivering on their promises!

Behind the Scenes: The Magic of the Lemon Design

Now, let's peel back the layers (pun intended) and uncover the magic behind the glaze we used to make this textured roller pop!   This particular glaze is carefully formulated to achieve that perfect balance of brightness and depth. It's like a ray of sunshine captured in a pottery piece, radiating warmth and cheerfulness.  We love the Caledon line from Amaco Brent, they cannot be beat for their ability to showcase any texture we choose to highlight.  Using the Marigold yellow, the Saguaro green,  and Lagoon blue we were able to capture the essence of Italy.  Something really important to remember - the color of your clay will change the color of the glaze, it's important to use white or lite color clay when using these Celadons.

Choosing the Right Application Technique

We tried two different techniques when using the roller, we have the tumbler with the ice guard and without.  You will notice that one of them the design pops a bit more, whereas the other is more subtle.  We love how there is a place for each side, some people like pop, some people like subtle.  On the one that pops, more we used a technique called flooding, where we take a darker color deep into the texture, (more on that in another post), and then use a small fan brush to apply the colors.  Where as on the other we just glazed using a small fan brush for the different colors.

Pairing the Lemon  Texture Roller with Complementary Colors

Looking to take your pottery game up a notch? Consider pairing the lemon design glaze with complementary colors to create a stunning visual contrast. Think shades of blue, green, or even a pop of orange to create a dynamic and eye-catching piece that will surely turn heads.
